Northfield, Bernardston, Gill and Leydon Area.....


As most know I write for SAM "On the Trails"

A really great area and as a rule with lots of snow is the Northfield to Bernardston to Colrain Area.

About 1 hour west on Rt 2 at the junction of 122 and Rt 2.

The folks out there are Fantastic and very helpful.

Lots of parking, and food locations

LODGING is available.

Centennial House in Northfield, Main St

Windmill Motel, Rt 5 between Northfield and Bernardston (I can not recall which town)
Located right on the trail system with plenty of parking for you trucks, trails and machines IF you stay there.

They also had a small rest. serving breakfast.

FOOD:

Northfield has several little restaurants on Main St. You park right there at the Police station and walk to the Tavern or the other little locations.

Nothfield also has a trail tot he Mobil station on Main St.

BERNARDSTON:

Has gas and I have nver taken it but I was told there is a trail to the station.

There are also two locations for food. A Pizza shop and the 4 Leaf Clover Rest. both you can ride too.

Parking for Bernardston is at the Steel Shed (south of town) and the Hollywood Lounge (north of town)on Rt 5


GILL:

has trails to a gas station along Rt 2

There was a pub as well but I heard they closed.

There is also the French King Motel and Rest. located on Rt 2 right at the French King Bridge on the east side of the river. Not sure if the motel is open now during the winter but the rest. is.

LEYDON:

I have to say I have not seen any gas or motels or food along the trails in Leydon.


AS always....... give a call to the local club and ask for info or call the town halls for more info on lodging.

Charlemont, MA. area.....

Along Rt 2 there is a very nice Restaurant and Motel that is just off the trail system. When we went there several years ago you were able to ride there off the main trail system.

There was a VERY good restaurant close by as well that we rode to.

Gas was located off the trail in Colrain or it was Shelbourne Falls.

Again check with local clubs maps and websites.

PS...... Jay and members it is so wonderful and your all doing such a GREAT job stating up a new club like this. It is a major undertaking. Be proud of you work and trails....it all comes with baby steps.
